SS23 Curated Looks - No.5
Look No.5 from our SS23 Curated outfits. Conservative and tonal. This look takes little thought but is ideal for your Sunday pub lunch. The simplest yet, that offers the most versatility for each garment. Of the five products on show, three we class as necessity items for any men's wardrobe: the white tee, the dark denim and the white minimal sneaker.
Let's kick start with the knitwear from the Swedish brand Stenströms. Notoriously they are seen as a shirt maker that creates shirts for the Swedish Royal family. However, they now delve into knit and jersey garments as well. This cardigan has been stocked at TLM since we launched; we try to introduce one or two new colours a season whilst always stocking navy as a shop staple. It is made in a soft Merino wool from Italian mill - Zegna Baruffa, and comes in this slate-like blue. Our favourite feature is the extreme cutaway collar which we feel sits just as well with a button-down shirt as it does with a tee due to its angle, as demonstrated in the lovely photography of me. Why, thank you.
Moving on to the T-Shirt, our favourite in-store, which we sell. Over the years, I've worked with some bloody tees, but these are by far the best.
Sunspel. Sweet, sweet Sunspel.
One of the first companies to develop the t-shirt. Certainly, the first to make a luxury one. And to this day, it is still handmade in their factory in Long Eaton, England and comes in a multitude of colours. The Pima cotton is super soft and washes very well. They have shorter sleeves and a higher neck than most tees. And we truly agree with them when they say it's the perfect tee. Wear it with absolutely anything, as a layering piece or on its own—Necessity No.1.
When starting The Locals, Ed and I felt we had to find denim that offered a mid to high-rise. We felt the market was lacking the likes of these unless you were going for a super spenny brand ahead of the curve. And we found exactly what we were looking for in Japan Blue. High-waisted, selvedge with a wee bit of stretch (purists cover your eyes). We stock two fits, the straight and tapered. Here I'm in the tapered denim, which we would class more a slim leg—made in a 12.5 oz African cotton—a good weight for all four seasons. The dark rinse jean is our favourite as it ages and develops its own personality from wear and washing—Necessity No.2.
The CQP racquet sneaker is the best minimal sneaker on the market, I challenge anyone otherwise.
The quality and craftsmanship is what makes these a beautiful shoe. We love trainers without a load of b******s going on with them. If you're over thirty, a man shouldn't be wearing trainers that look like they're going to take off at any moment.
Instead, they should fit like a glove from the get-go. And that's precisely what these offer, unlined with Italian Nappa leather that is so soft it could be from a unicorn. Their simplicity can be dressed up or down. With a pair of tropical wools or shorts, they are just as harmonious with these as they are with denim. Did we mention they're handmade? Necessity No.3.
So there you have it; Look No.5 of SS23 is now live. So look out for our 'ways to wear it', where we focus on different ways to pair the jacket featured in today's look.
